COURSE
DESCRIPTION

Beyond Milestones. A deeper look at typical developmental milestones and more considerations for the practicing chiropractor when it comes to working with the pediatric neurodevelopment population.

COURSE OBJECTIVE

In this course the typical milestones of development will be covered and expanded upon to help a provider understand what to look for beyond simply the age a child meets a specific milestone. Other considerations of development will be covered and how to monitor them in the chiropractic practice. This course will expand upon the physical and basic communication milestones and discuss not just timing but the order in which a child meets them. In addition, the course will cover red flags that may present in the pediatric population and also what may be uncovered on a case history of an older child or adult. We will also discuss how to communicate to the parents about development and co-manage with other providers when necessary. In addition this course will cover case studies of specfic clinical cases that knowing how to assess beyond the basic milestones was important to the clinical care of the child.

RATIONALE FOR PURPOSE

The chiropractor working with a pediatric population needs to be familiar with the typical developmental milestones of childhood as a way of observing and assessing the development of the patients. It is important for the chiropractor to understand and be able to communicate to parents and other providers signs and observations about a child that may be indicators of altered trajectory of development beyond simply meeting the milestones. This starts at taking a complete case history of current presentation and also indicators of altered development in early life regardless of the age of the patient presentation in the office for care.
